Lifting a heavy object can cause a slipped disk or a back strain if not done properly. Most often, the strain is caused when the heavy object is lifted by lowering and bending the back and letting the back muscles bear the weight of the heavy object.
Hence once the lifting motion is done, the back muscles and ligaments become strained and will cause the individual’s lower back to hurt unbearably, The need to find immediate lower back pain relief now arises because the person is now suffering from an unbearable discomfort.
If in case you need to lift a heavy object, you should do the lifting motion coming from a bended knee straightening up and not from bending your back then straightening up while carrying the weight.
The strength and support needed to raise the heavy object should come from your legs because they are equipped with muscles that are several times stronger than your back muscles. This is the reason why some people who are not used to lifting heavy objects end up with terrible back strains, or at worst, twist a ligament and suffer from a slipped disk.
A slipped disk or also known as herniated disk, takes place if a spinal bone will bulge. In worst cases a ligament will twist and allow a spinal bone to slip in a position that will press on the inner nerves. This can cause excruciating pain in the lower back, and may temporarily be eased by some pain relieving medicines. However, a more permanent form of lower back pain relief due to a slipped disk can be achieved by doing the following:
1. Lie on the floor and on your back. Place a pillow under your knees keeping them slightly bended, enough to raise your hips off the floor surface with your feet firmly planted in front of your supine body.
2. Another method is to place a chair in front of you and again lie flat on your back on the floor surface. Put the pillow on the chair’s seat and place your legs on top of it while keeping your knees bended. The position you achieve will cause your hips to raise a little.
3. These two lower back pain relief methods aim to ease out the pressure of your weight on your back. Get some rest by alternately assuming these two positions for about one or two days, the most. The next best thing for you to do is walk around and don’t mind the pain, to avoid weakening your muscles.
4. Apply hot compress or any heating pads available for about 20 to 30 minutes to provide you with lower back pain relief as it eases the muscle spasms.
5. If you cannot stand the pain, over-the-counter medicines under the following generic names: acetaminophen, ibuprofen, naproxen, and ketoprofen will help reduce the swelling faster.
In case your pain doesn’t seem to get better in a day or two, it would be best if you called or visited your doctor. Medically, it has been proven that no specific lower back pain relief will work perfectly for everybody. Any basic treatment method that can lessen the hurt will do until the main cause is pinpointed and properly addressed.
